  1. Question 1 · Maths

Zara thinks of a number, divides it by 3, then adds 14, and ends up with 20. What number did Zara think of?

    1. A.9
    2. B.102
    3. C.46
    4. D.18
    Show answer

    Answer: D. 18

Start at the end and undo each step, taking them in the opposite order to the one they were done in: take away 14 from 20 to get 6; multiply 6 by 3 to get 18. So the number was 18. Each step has to be swapped for its opposite - adding undoes taking away, and multiplying undoes dividing.

  2. Question 2 · Maths

How many prime numbers are there from 20 to 40?

    1. A.17
    2. B.4
    3. C.5
    4. D.10
    Show answer

    Answer: B. 4

A prime number has exactly two factors, itself and 1. The primes from 20 to 40 are 23, 29, 31, 37. That is 4 of them.

  3. Question 3 · Maths

Nisha has ₹220 and saves ₹20 every week. After how many weeks will she have ₹800?

    1. A.30
    2. B.3
    3. C.29
    4. D.31
    Show answer

    Answer: C. 29

    She needs ₹800 − ₹220 = ₹580 more, and ₹580 ÷ ₹20 = 29 weeks.

  4. Question 4 · Science

Which one of these statements about solids, liquids and gases is NOT true?

    1. A.Water vapour in the air is a liquid.
    2. B.Perfume in its bottle before spraying is a liquid.
    3. C.Water in a glass is a liquid.
    4. D.Fruit juice is a liquid.
    Show answer

Answer: A. Water vapour in the air is a liquid.

Water vapour in the air is a gas. The white cloud you see above a kettle is tiny liquid droplets; the water vapour itself is a gas and is invisible. Every other statement here is one you can check and find true, which is what leaves this one as the odd one out. If you can see it, it is not water vapour - the vapour itself is an invisible gas.

  5. Question 5 · Science

The beam of a lighthouse sweeps right round 12 times in 24 seconds. How long does one sweep take?

    1. A.12 s
    2. B.1 s
    3. C.2 s
    4. D.24 s
    Show answer

    Answer: C. 2 s

The 24 seconds cover 12 repeats of the same movement, so share the time out equally between them: 24 divided by 12 gives the time for one sweep of the beam.

  6. Question 6 · English

Which word means the opposite of Vertical?

    1. A.Parallel
    2. B.Perpendicular
    3. C.Horizontal
    4. D.Wide
    Show answer

    Answer: C. Horizontal

Horizontal means the opposite of Vertical. Parallel is often guessed instead, because parallel is another maths line word, so children pick it without checking meaning.

  7. Question 7 · English

Someone says: "I am afraid I must disagree with that." What is the speaker doing?

    1. A.Disagreeing politely
    2. B.Refusing politely
    3. C.Apologising
    4. D.Complaining politely
    Show answer

    Answer: A. Disagreeing politely

Saying 'I am afraid I must disagree with that.' is disagreeing politely - it is not apologising, because the afraid is a softener, not a sorry for anything done.

  8. Question 8 · Logical Reasoning

In a certain code, CHAIR is written as 39. In the same code, what number is HORSE written as?

    1. A.65
    2. B.75
    3. C.60
    4. D.70
    Show answer

    Answer: A. 65

    Test a rule against the example before using it. Adding each letter's place in the alphabet (A=1, B=2 ... Z=26) gives CHAIR = 39, which matches - so HORSE = 8 + 15 + 18 + 19 + 5 = 65.

  9. Question 9 · Logical Reasoning

Asha is taller than Bela. Esha is taller than Asha. Bela is taller than Chetan. Who is the tallest?

    1. A.Asha
    2. B.Esha
    3. C.Bela
    4. D.Chetan
    Show answer

    Answer: B. Esha

Join the clues into one line before answering. Each clue shares a name with another, and together they give Esha > Asha > Bela > Chetan - so the tallest is Esha and the shortest is Chetan. No single clue answers the question; the line does.

  10. Question 10 · Computers

www.prepmojo.in is an example of -

    1. A.An email address
    2. B.A search engine
    3. C.A password
    4. D.A website address (URL)
    Show answer

Answer: D. A website address (URL)

An address that starts with www. names one website - typing it in the address bar takes you straight there. No @, so it is not email.
