  1. Question 1 · Maths

Which numeral shows the number 'eighteen'?

    1. A.8
    2. B.18
    3. C.81
    4. D.80
    Show answer

    Answer: B. 18

'eighteen' is written as 18 - 1 ten and 8 ones. 'eighty' (80) sounds alike but means 8 tens.

  2. Question 2 · Maths

At 7 a.m. the temperature was 12°C. It rose by 1°C every hour until 2 p.m., and then fell by 3°C every hour. What was the temperature at 6 p.m.?

    1. A.23°C
    2. B.8°C
    3. C.31°C
    4. D.7°C
    Show answer

    Answer: D. 7°C

    From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. is 7 hours, so the temperature rose 7 × 1 = 7°C, reaching 19°C. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. is 4 hours, so it fell 4 × 3 = 12°C. That leaves 7°C.

  3. Question 3 · Maths

    Box P holds 34, Q holds 43, R holds 79, S holds 97. Which order goes smallest to greatest?

    1. A.P, Q, R, S
    2. B.P, R, Q, S
    3. C.Q, P, R, S
    4. D.P, Q, S, R
    Show answer

    Answer: A. P, Q, R, S

Compare digit by digit from the left, never by how long a number looks: 34 < 43 < 79 < 97. Then read off whose box each one is, in that order.

  4. Question 4 · Science

Strike out every alternate letter starting from the first one in each option. Which option gives the organ where food is churned after we swallow it?

    1. A.WLQUBNNGTS
    2. B.LBWRXAXITN
    3. C.DHDEHAGRRT
    4. D.XSZTWOLMFAMCSH
    Show answer

    Answer: D. XSZTWOLMFAMCSH

Striking out the first, third, fifth ... letters of XSZTWOLMFAMCSH leaves STOMACH, the organ where food is churned after we swallow it.

  5. Question 5 · Science

Select the option that correctly completes the word in the given statement. The bones in our body form a strong S_E_E_O_, which gives our body its shape.

    1. A.IAIS
    2. B.TNKL
    3. C.KLTN
    4. D.LTNK
    Show answer

    Answer: C. KLTN

The word is SKELETON. Putting KLTN back into S_E_E_O_ spells it.

  6. Question 6 · English

Complete the idiom: "once in a blue ____".

    1. A.day
    2. B.moon
    3. C.sea
    4. D.sky
    Show answer

    Answer: B. moon

The idiom is "once in a blue moon", and it means something that happens very rarely. An idiom keeps the very same words every time it is used, so an ending that only fits the sense is still the wrong one.

  7. Question 7 · English

    They ___ jumping now.

    1. A.Are
    2. B.Am
    3. C.Was
    4. D.Is
    Show answer

    Answer: A. Are

We say: They are jumping now. 'Was' would mean it already happened - the sentence says now.

  8. Question 8 · Logical Reasoning

Aisha has ₹300 and a friend has ₹118. Together they buy a pencil box for ₹38. How much money is left with them?

    1. A.₹456
    2. B.₹144
    3. C.₹380
    4. D.₹262
    Show answer

    Answer: C. ₹380

    First put the two amounts together: 300 + 118 = 418. Then take away 38: 418 − 38 = 380.

  9. Question 9 · Logical Reasoning

Anika has ₹150 to spend on 5 similar story books, with no money left over. What does one story book cost?

    1. A.₹37
    2. B.₹21
    3. C.₹30
    4. D.₹25
    Show answer

    Answer: C. ₹30

Share the ₹150 equally between the 5 story books: taking ₹30 away 5 times empties the purse exactly, so one story book costs ₹30.

  10. Question 10 · Computers

Statement 1: The Spacebar is the longest key on the keyboard. Statement 2: The Caps Lock key deletes the letter before the cursor. Which of these is true?

    1. A.Only statement 2 is correct
    2. B.Both statements are correct
    3. C.Neither statement is correct
    4. D.Only statement 1 is correct
    Show answer

Answer: D. Only statement 1 is correct

Statement 2 is wrong: Caps Lock switches capital letters on and off, and it is Backspace that rubs out a letter. Statement 1 has nothing wrong with it, so only statement 1 is correct.
