  1. Question 1 · Maths

In the number 482, what is the value of the digit 2?

    1. A.2
    2. B.80
    3. C.20
    4. D.200
    Show answer

  2. Question 2 · Maths

Asha buys a kite for ₹37 and pays with a ₹50 note. How much change does she get back?

    1. A.₹23
    2. B.₹3
    3. C.₹13
    4. D.₹37
    Show answer

    Answer: C. ₹13

    Change is what comes back: ₹50 − ₹37 = ₹13. Check it the other way: ₹37 + ₹13 = ₹50.

  3. Question 3 · Maths

Nikhil has ₹50. One notebook costs ₹7. What is the greatest number of notebooks Nikhil can buy?

    1. A.1
    2. B.7
    3. C.6
    4. D.49
    Show answer

    Answer: B. 7

7 of them cost 7 × ₹7 = ₹49, which can be paid. One more would cost ₹56, which is more than ₹50. So the greatest number is 7, with ₹1 left over.

  4. Question 4 · Science

Which group does the butterfly belong to?

    1. A.fish
    2. B.bird
    3. C.mammal
    4. D.insect
    Show answer

    Answer: D. insect

The butterfly is an insect. It is often called a bird because it flies, but it has six legs and no feathers.

  5. Question 5 · Science

Which force is at work when a magnet picks up a pin?

    1. A.magnetic force
    2. B.friction
    3. C.muscular force
    4. D.gravity
    Show answer

    Answer: A. magnetic force

When a magnet picks up a pin, the force at work is magnetic force. It is often taken for gravity because gravity pulls the pin DOWN - this force lifts it UP against gravity.

  6. Question 6 · English

My uncle gave ___ apple to my sister and ___.

    1. A.a ... I
    2. B.an ... me
    3. C.an ... I
    4. D.a ... me
    Show answer

    Answer: B. an ... me

We say: My uncle gave an apple to my sister and me. Apple begins with a vowel sound, so an; and after 'to my sister and', the receiver is me, never I.

  7. Question 7 · English

A ___ of ships sailed out to sea.

    1. A.Litter
    2. B.Flock
    3. C.Fleet
    4. D.Herd
    Show answer

    Answer: C. Fleet

We say: A fleet of ships sailed out to sea. 'Herd' does not fit, because herd is for animals, not ships.

  8. Question 8 · Logical Reasoning

What is Arjun's father's brother's son to Arjun?

    1. A.uncle
    2. B.nephew
    3. C.brother
    4. D.cousin
    Show answer

  9. Question 9 · Logical Reasoning

How is Sara's daughter's daughter related to Sara?

    1. A.daughter
    2. B.granddaughter
    3. C.grandmother
    4. D.grandson
    Show answer

    Answer: B. granddaughter

Take the chain one step at a time. Sara's daughter is one step down the family, and that person's daughter is another step down. So that person is Sara's granddaughter.

  10. Question 10 · Computers

Amit tries to save a long film onto his computer, and a message tells him there is no room left to keep anything more. Everything else works normally. Which part of the computer is most likely causing this?

    1. A.Hard disk
    2. B.Monitor
    3. C.Printer
    4. D.Keyboard
    Show answer

    Answer: A. Hard disk

The question says more about what is still going right than about what has gone wrong, and every one of those details crosses a part off the list. The one thing left unexplained is there being nowhere left to keep a file, and the hard disk is the only part on the list that could bring it about.
