  1. Question 1 · Maths

Anika left the office at 2:00 p.m. for a 2-hour seminar. The drive took 1 h 30 min, and Anika reached the hall 20 minutes after the seminar had started. At what time did the seminar end?

    1. A.5:10 p.m.
    2. B.3:30 p.m.
    3. C.5:30 p.m.
    4. D.5:50 p.m.
    Show answer

    Answer: A. 5:10 p.m.

Going forward first, 2:00 p.m. plus 1 h 30 min reaches 3:30 p.m. Arriving 20 minutes LATE means the seminar had begun 20 minutes earlier, so go backwards from 3:30 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. Then run forward again for the 2 hours it lasted, which reaches 5:10 p.m.

  2. Question 2 · Maths

A rectangle is 12 cm long and 2 cm wide. What is its perimeter, in cm?

    1. A.28
    2. B.48
    3. C.24
    4. D.14
    Show answer

    Answer: A. 28

    Perimeter is the distance all the way round: 12 + 2 + 12 + 2 = 28 cm. It is 2 × (12 + 2), not 12 × 2 - that would be the area, which measures the space inside.

  3. Question 3 · Maths

Diya puts aside 2675 paise each month. How much money is that altogether in 14 months?

    1. A.₹401 and 25 paise
    2. B.₹37450
    3. C.₹3745
    4. D.₹374 and 50 paise
    Show answer

    Answer: D. ₹374 and 50 paise

Multiply in paise first: 2675 × 14 = 37450 paise. A hundred paise make one rupee, so divide by a hundred to write it in rupees.

  4. Question 4 · Maths

    What number is 60 thousands + 140 hundreds + 75 tens?

    1. A.74750
    2. B.60000
    3. C.50
    4. D.6014075
    Show answer

    Answer: A. 74750

    Turn each part into a number of its own: 60 x 1000 = 60000; 140 x 100 = 14000; 75 x 10 = 750. Adding those gives 74750. A count bigger than 9 cannot be written straight into its place - 75 tens is 750, not a 75 sitting in the tens column.

  5. Question 5 · Maths

A rectangle is 12 cm long and 4 cm wide. What is its perimeter, in cm?

    1. A.16
    2. B.48
    3. C.28
    4. D.32
    Show answer

    Answer: D. 32

    Perimeter is the distance all the way round: 12 + 4 + 12 + 4 = 32 cm. It is 2 × (12 + 4), not 12 × 4 - that would be the area, which measures the space inside.

  6. Question 6 · Maths

How many thousands are there in 8 lakh?

    1. A.80000
    2. B.80
    3. C.8
    4. D.800
    Show answer

    Answer: D. 800

One lakh is 100 thousands, so 8 lakh is 8 x 100 = 800 thousands. Counting the zeros is the safe way: write both amounts out in full and line the places up.

  7. Question 7 · Logical Reasoning

If doctor is called teacher, teacher is called farmer, farmer is called pilot and pilot is called doctor, then who grows our food?

    1. A.farmer
    2. B.pilot
    3. C.doctor
    4. D.teacher
    Show answer

    Answer: B. pilot

Answer the question first, then translate. The true answer is farmer. But nothing here keeps its own name: farmer is called pilot, so pilot is what you say. Reading the swap the other way round - asking what is called farmer - answers a question nobody asked.

  8. Question 8 · Logical Reasoning

Each letter of the word ENVIRONMENT may be used only as often as it appears in it. Which of the following words CANNOT be formed from its letters?

    1. A.MENTOR
    2. B.INTERN
    3. C.INVENT
    4. D.MONITOR
    Show answer

    Answer: D. MONITOR

Strike the letters of each option off ENVIRONMENT one at a time. The answer runs out at the letter O, which ENVIRONMENT does not supply often enough, while the other three can be built completely.
