Question 1 · Maths
Which of these numbers is built from the fewest DIFFERENT prime factors?
- A.1331
- B.1944
- C.294
- D.1638
Show answer
Answer: A. 1331
Break each number down into primes: 1944 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 (2 different); 1638 = 2 x 3 x 3 x 7 x 13 (4 different); 294 = 2 x 3 x 7 x 7 (3 different); 1331 = 11 x 11 x 11 (1 different). So the answer is 1331. Count how many DIFFERENT primes appear, not how many factors there are altogether - a number can be built from a single prime used eight times over.
Question 2 · Maths
Which of these Roman numerals is written correctly?
- A.DCCCCXXXXVIIII
- B.VVVV
- C.CDXCIX
- D.IXXLCM
Show answer
Answer: C. CDXCIX
CDXCIX is the only one that keeps every rule. It reads 400 + 90 + 9 = 499. The rules are: I, X, C and M may be repeated at most three times; V, L and D are never repeated and never taken away; I may only be taken from V and X, X only from L and C, and C only from D and M; and the symbols run from the largest value to the smallest.
Question 3 · Maths
What kind of angle measures 30°?
- A.obtuse
- B.right
- C.acute
- D.straight
Show answer
Answer: C. acute
An angle of 30° is acute. Acute is less than 90°, a right angle is exactly 90°, obtuse is between 90° and 180°, and straight is exactly 180°.
Question 4 · Maths
Meera walks once round a square field of side 40 m. Sara walks three times round a rectangular field 18 m long and 16 m wide. Who covers the longer distance, and by how much?
- A.Sara, by 364 m
- B.Meera, by 44 m
- C.Sara, by 44 m
- D.Meera, by 58 m
Show answer
Answer: C. Sara, by 44 m
Measure both boundaries before counting any laps: 4 × 40 = 160 m right round the square, against 2 × (18 + 16) = 68 m right round the rectangle. Now count the walking: Meera does 1 of the first, so 1 × 160 = 160 m, while Sara does 3 of the second, so 3 × 68 = 204 m, and the gap between those two totals is 204 − 160 = 44 m.
Question 5 · Maths
A shop takes 3/8 off the price of a school bag, and Rahul pays ₹375. What was the price before the sale?
- A.₹3000
- B.₹600
- C.₹200
- D.₹375
Show answer
Answer: B. ₹600
With 3/8 taken off, what is paid is the other 5/8 of the old price. One 8th is ₹375 ÷ 5 = ₹75, so the old price was 8 of them: ₹600.
Question 6 · Maths
The word SALUTE is written in capital letters. How many of its letters contain a pair of perpendicular lines?
- A.6
- B.3
- C.2
- D.4
Show answer
Answer: B. 3
Perpendicular lines meet at a right angle. L, T, E are built from an upright stroke and a level one, so each has a pair; S, A, U have no upright stroke meeting a level one - what they have is curved or slanted instead. That is 3 of them. A slanted stroke crossing another is not enough: the angle between them has to be a right angle.
Question 7 · Logical Reasoning
Which letter lies exactly midway between G and U in the English alphabet?
- A.M
- B.O
- C.N
- D.J
Show answer
Answer: C. N
G and U are 14 letters apart, so the middle lies 7 letters after G: N.
Question 8 · Logical Reasoning
Today is Saturday. What day of the week will it be after 11 days?
- A.Sunday
- B.Wednesday
- C.Tuesday
- D.Thursday
Show answer
Answer: B. Wednesday
Every 7 days the week repeats: 1 full week lands on Saturday again, then 4 more days on - Wednesday. The count starts with tomorrow, never with today itself.
