  1. Question 1 · Science

A heavy box is dragged up to the same shelf along three ramps of different lengths. Along which ramp is the smallest force needed?

    1. A.The same force along all three
    2. B.The longest ramp
    3. C.Whichever ramp is widest
    4. D.The middle ramp
    Show answer

    Answer: B. The longest ramp

A longer ramp spreads the same climb over a greater distance, so each step of the journey lifts the box a little less and needs a smaller pull.

  2. Question 2 · Science

Select the odd one out on the basis of the covering on the body.

    1. A.Lizard
    2. B.Crocodile
    3. C.Pigeon
    4. D.Rohu fish
    Show answer

    Answer: C. Pigeon

A pigeon's body is covered with feathers. Rohu fish, Lizard and Crocodile all agree on the basis named in the question, so the one that does not is the odd one out.

  3. Question 3 · Science

Three friends each said something. Aisha: A child has 20 milk teeth. Ananya: Molars are used to grind food. Anika: Canines are flat teeth used for grinding food. Who has made an INCORRECT statement?

    1. A.Aisha and Ananya only
    2. B.Anika only
    3. C.All three
    4. D.Aisha and Anika only
    Show answer

    Answer: B. Anika only

Anika is wrong, because canines are pointed teeth used for tearing food. The others said something true, so the answer is Anika only.

  4. Question 4 · Science

Read these four statements about food. Which one is incorrect?

    1. A.Chapati comes from a plant.
    2. B.Paneer comes from an animal.
    3. C.Milk gives us mainly protein.
    4. D.Rice gives us mainly fat.
    Show answer

Answer: D. Rice gives us mainly fat.

Rice gives us mainly carbohydrate. It is often cooked with ghee or oil, but the grain itself is starch. Every other statement here is one you can check and find true, which is what leaves this one as the odd one out.

  5. Question 5 · Science

A magnet attracts iron, nickel and cobalt without touching them. Which of these can a magnet NOT be used for?

    1. A.Picking iron nails out of sand
    2. B.Picking up a copper coin from a table
    3. C.Turning a compass needle to the north
    4. D.Holding a note on a steel fridge door
    Show answer

Answer: B. Picking up a copper coin from a table

Copper is a metal, but only iron, nickel and cobalt answer a magnet, so a copper coin sits where it is.

  6. Question 6 · Science

A force acts between two surfaces that are touching and works against them sliding over each other. What is this force called?

    1. A.Gravity
    2. B.Friction
    3. C.Muscular force
    4. D.Elastic force
    Show answer

    Answer: B. Friction

It is why a ball rolling on sand stops sooner than one on tiles, and why shoes grip a wet floor badly.

  7. Question 7 · Logical Reasoning

If doctor is called teacher, teacher is called farmer, farmer is called pilot and pilot is called doctor, then who grows our food?

    1. A.farmer
    2. B.pilot
    3. C.doctor
    4. D.teacher
    Show answer

    Answer: B. pilot

Answer the question first, then translate. The true answer is farmer. But nothing here keeps its own name: farmer is called pilot, so pilot is what you say. Reading the swap the other way round - asking what is called farmer - answers a question nobody asked.

  8. Question 8 · Logical Reasoning

Each letter of the word ENVIRONMENT may be used only as often as it appears in it. Which of the following words CANNOT be formed from its letters?

    1. A.MENTOR
    2. B.INTERN
    3. C.INVENT
    4. D.MONITOR
    Show answer

    Answer: D. MONITOR

Strike the letters of each option off ENVIRONMENT one at a time. The answer runs out at the letter O, which ENVIRONMENT does not supply often enough, while the other three can be built completely.
